Making a Place for UU

Rev. Lia Davis

Join us on November 23rd at 10:30 am. Each moment offers a generous invitation to notice, to feel, to be truly awake, to create something new and unknown. And yet it is not so simple for most of us to say yes to these invitations. Rev. Lia will share a series of excerpts from her Morning Pages (free association) journal, exploring themes of mindfulness, embodied living, escaping ruts, and embracing the beauty and the mess that is a part of each of our lives.

We warmly invite you to join us in person, or if you prefer, you can also participate online. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our service streams to Youtube and Zoom (meeting ID is 466-677-668 and the password is 454623).

Join us for coffee in the Community Room after the service.

Leadership Development Workshop – DATE CHANGE!

(Thanks to Tess Dieringer for the post)

Leadership Development Workshop

Making Sense of Our Sensitivities

November 23 from noon to 1:30 pm in the Rose Chapel

In this 90-minute workshop, we will examine common self beliefs (based on the work of Aaron T. Beck, MD), and their direct, but often unconscious, impact on communication. Self beliefs affect our interactions and relationships, often causing us to automatically react rather than to thoughtfully respond. We explore why certain behaviors of others “trigger” us, often derailing productive exchanges. We will present proven strategies on how to rise above self-defeating reactions to enhance our abilities to work collaboratively and respectfully. Facilitated by Tess Dieringer, MSW, LCSW, Care Manager Certified. Kindly RSVP by Thursday, November 20, so we can plan accordingly at https://forms.gle/iGf1arXAchRduJPr5. All are welcome as we learn and grow together in support of our beloved community! Refreshments provided.

Denver’s 149th Annual Thanksgiving Interfaith Service

(Thanks to Michael DeSantis for the post)

Denver’s Annual Thanksgiving Interfaith Service — started in 1876 — is one of the oldest continuous interfaith partnerships in the country and First Unitarian has a long tradition of participating. This year’s service will be held at the Denver Buddhist Temple (1947 Lawrence St.) and will begin at 10 am on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27). The service will be around an hour long and will be followed by light refreshments.

Monetary and nonperishable food donations will be gratefully accepted on behalf of our local mission partner, Metro Caring. More information about items to donate is available here.

Parking will be available in the Sakura Square garage, entrance at 1950 Lawrence St (validation processed inside the temple with license plate number). Overflow garage parking will also be available: details to come! Additionally, street parking in Denver is free for the holiday.

Blue Christmas Service

(Thanks to Rev. Lia Davis for the post)

You are invited to our annual Blue Christmas service – a music-filled, contemplative worship service on Wednesday, December 10th at 6:00 pm. Led by Michael DeSantis, this service features musicians from our community, Rev. Lia Davis on piano, and guest cellist Phil Norman. Blue Christmas is for everyone, though especially for those whose memories or experience of the holidays has been incongruous with the typical, superficial expectations of the season.

Talk about Home-Sharing

(Thanks to Colleen Bryan for the post)

Let’s Talk Homesharing… and Share a Lunch! Sunday, January 4, 2026 11:45 am-2:00 pm at First Unitarian,

Denver (and the country) face a housing crisis. Millions of bedrooms throughout the country sit empty every night. Meanwhile 3-5 times as many people cannot find affordable rooms to rent. And loneliness is reported across age and social class at epidemic levels. What do you imagine accounts for such gaps? How might they be reduced?

Would you consider having lunch and conversation to explore this with us?

Homeowners with one or more extra bedrooms are particularly invited to join us for a focus group conversation to explore the needs, concerns, and incentives that might make home-sharing viable. For more information, click here.

Connect With Other FUSD Members, Friends and Visitors

(Thanks to the Connections Committee for the post)

Help us create a welcoming space for visitors every Sunday by volunteering at the greeters or visitor information table (located in the church foyer and at the entrance/exit to the Community Room). These tables offer a place for newcomers, as well as FUSD members and friends, to ask questions and make connections within our community.

Volunteers are needed during the half hour before and after the service. We’ll provide everything you need—including pairing you with an experienced volunteer to get started. Just bring a warm smile, desire to help others, and heart for connection.
