Democracy Action Team
Who We Are
The Democracy Action Team at First Unitarian Society of Denver is part of the national UU social justice network. We work to promote Unitarian Universalist values and defend democratic norms—both in Colorado and at the national level. Our team formed in early 2025 in response to increasing authoritarian policies and threats to civil liberties.Enter your text here...
What We Do
Over six months, we enrolled more than 220 FUSD members in our “Rapid Response to Tyranny” email list, which now serves 225+ subscribers. Each week we share:
Upcoming protests and nonviolent direct actions
Training opportunities
Reliable information sources and resistance resources
Calls to action such as contacting elected officials, writing letters to the editor, and coordinated outreach
Our goal is practical civic engagement: learn, organize, and take peaceful, effective action.
What We Are Proud Of
On June 1, we led a Social Justice Action Sunday service highlighting the eight social justice teams at FUSD. We surveyed attendees on how they are responding to current threats and where they feel called to act. From 100+ responses, we launched four project teams focused on:
- Everyday actions: calls and emails to officials, letters to the editor, and weekly micro-actions.
- Training: preparing our community for safe, nonviolent direct action.
- Direct actions: protests, boycotts, activist fairs, vigils at ICE detention centers, and sit-ins at state and federal offices.
- UU networking: coordinating with other UU congregations for shared messaging and wider impact.
