TACO Party!

Inspired by Mike’s sermon on June 1, we, Patrick Whorton and Sandy Parker, will be hosting a TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out) Party after the NO KINGS protest on June 14. It will start at 6:00 pm, at 1608 Cook Street. We are asking for a minimum donation of $20 per person at the door to cover the cost of food; the remaining funds will be donated to FUSD’s Rapid Response team. We are catering 50 chicken and 50 asada tacos. BYOB. Join us to strategize, debrief, laugh, and have some fun. You don’t have to attend the protest to attend this fundraiser.

Screening of Si Pudiera Quedarme/If I Could Stay

The Immigrant Circle of FUSD will be showing “Si Pudiera Quedarme/If I Could Stay”, the documentary about Jeanette Vizguerra and Ingrid Encalada Latorre, on Monday, June 16, in the FUSD Sanctuary at 4:00 p.m. The film is a heart-wrenching and inspiring story of two undocumented Latinx mothers who courageously enter local churches to evade deportation and protect their families. The film’s runtime is 75 minutes and will be followed by a 30-minute talkback featuring Ingrid (by Zoom) and Theo Rigby, the filmmaker (in person).

The film will be free to attend, but we plan to collect donations for Jeanette and other families of current detainees at GEO. Following the film, we hope many people will attend the Monday night vigil at the GEO detention facility in Aurora, supporting the detainees. Please publicize widely within your circles.

This 1999 movie based on the book by John Irving was an Oscar winner (best actor in a supporting role— Tobey McGuire). It tells the story of a doctor (Michael Caine) who takes care of orphans and women who seek abortions for unwanted pregnancies.

Family CORE Circle is held the third Friday of each month from 6-7:30pm in the Community Room. It is part potluck, part playdate and a great opportunity to bond and share with other FUSD families of school-aged (and preschool aged) children. “Grandparents” will be on hand to guide the children in play while the parents can discuss various topics and deepen their acquaintance with each other and the church community in general.
