Peace, Love & Tubastanding is a positive, uplifting musical ministry to help heal the growing wounds of racism and Peace, Love, & TubastandingGuest Speakers Kabin Thomas and Mary Thomas Peace, Love & Tubastanding is a positive, uplifting musical ministry to help heal the growing wounds of racism and division in our society. In this service – part concert and part storytelling, Kabin and Mary will share true personal stories and perform music for tuba and voice that celebrates inclusion, empathy, and the sacredness of being alive. Their goal is to overwhelm fear with love, respect, education, courage, and understanding. About our Speakers:Kabin Thomas is originally from Detroit. He is a professional tuba player who has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras. He is a Marine and Navy veteran. During his time in the Navy, Kabin performed with the Naval Academy Band, based in Annapolis. He has a bachelor’s degree in tuba performance and theater from the University of Michigan and a Master’s in tuba performance and conducting from the University of Wisconsin. Kabin was a music professor at the University of Arkansas for 11 years, where he joined the Unitarian Universalist church. Then he was an actor in LA. He is currently the morning radio host for Colorado Public Radio’s Classical music station. Mary Thomas is also from Michigan and is a vocalist. She has been a Unitarian Universalist since grade school. She attended Central Michigan University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and communication, and a Master’s in interpersonal and public communication. She was a college communication instructor for 10 years and worked in public affairs at a television station. Mary has worked for various nonprofits, including Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She is currently the operations administrator for a Denver-area nonprofit. Kabin and Mary live in Aurora, Colorado, with their two cats, Kira and Othello. Prior to moving to Colorado, they lived in Omaha for several years, where they belonged to the First Unitarian Church of Omaha. Both served on church committees and often performed during church services.
