When It Rains Down Here: What We Do With Our Stories Through Uncertain Times

Michael Kengmana

Our stories, like our words, have power and meaning; the power to change who we are and how we view the world as well as the power to build up walls within our hearts to resist any sort of change. In Judaism, one of the elements that shapes the story of how we view ourselves and the world is rain; something nourishing, but also uncertain. In these times when the power of story is so often co-opted to exclude the stories of others, what lessons can we take from the ancient knowledge that the land shapes how we understand ourselves and our relationships to each other? How can we not just create new stories, but also create new ways of crafting and telling the stories that shape our world?
