Sunday Worship –
September 11th at 10:00 am
Waterworld
by Rev. Mike Morran
On this In-Gathering Sunday, we will have our annual water communion as we consider all the beautiful metaphors for water, both life-giving and chaos, across human cultures.
It’s finally here! In-Gathering Sunday! Join your UU community for our annual In-Gathering and Water Communion service on Sunday, September 11th at 10am. We look forward to seeing you in person or online as we gather to begin another Church year at 1st Unitarian Denver.
Please plan to bring a small sample of water from your travels or other places that have been meaningful over the past year.
This will be in intergenerational service and we hope to see lots of children and young soUUls!
We do have coffee hour after the service, and would love for you to bring snacks (healthy and otherwise) to go with our coffee!
Multiplatform Worship at First Unitarian Denver

At this time, masks are optional but highly encouraged for those who might have been exposed, might be at higher risk for severe illness, or have weakened immune systems. Our service streams to Facebook, Youtube, and Zoom (meeting ID is 466-677-668 and the password is 454623).
Our in-person coffee hour will resume soon! Join us for virtual coffee hour on Zoom after the service. The meeting ID is 912-1732-1324. Come see familiar faces and meet new people.

Revival THIS Saturday @ 4 pm – now at First Unitarian!
|
(thanks to Lia Davis for the post)
Join us THIS Saturday, September 10th for Come Together SInging, First Unitarian Denver’s 9th annual Revival and Ice Cream Social. Due to the forecast for cooler weather and possible rain, we have decided to hold Revival at First Unitarian Denver instead of Alamo Placita Park. We’ll gather at 4 pm for singing in the sanctuary (including our First Unitarian Children’s Choir), followed by a potluck dinner and ice cream treats (regular and dairy-free) provided by the Music Program. If weather permits, we will have both indoor and outdoor seating for the dinner. Please bring a dish to share if you are able; our Chalice Singers will be providing main dishes. We hope to see you there!

Giving in Action – Beach Court After-School Arts Program
|
(thanks to Charlotte Braud-Kern for the post)
Beach Court After-School Arts Program, run by FUSD’s Charlotte Braud-Kern, brings quality arts related classes to 130 elementary and middle school students in NW Denver. Donations from FUSD will go toward scholarships for nearly two thirds of students in the program allowing them to learn to sing, dance, act, play an instrument and make beautiful art from local artists and teachers from organizations like the Denver Children’s Choir, Colorado Honor Band, Denver Young Artists Orchestra and Fiesta Colorado Dance.
Please help out these students with your generous donation!
Beach Court After-School Arts Program, Where the Arts Are for Everyone! Check out our website:https://beach-court-after-school-music-program.webnode.page/. Donate on your Breeze account by clicking here, click the drop down and select ‘Give to Giving in Action’ or contact Charlotte Braud-Kern.

Hey, First Unitarian: Look up!
|
(thanks to the Endowment Committee for the post)
When you enter the sanctuary, you may notice large screen video screens up high on the right and left, displaying the order of service and the words of the songs that we are singing. Last June at the annual meeting, the Congregation approved a grant from your Endowment to fund the installation of these screens – now they are a reality! On behalf of all of us who struggled to read the words on the screen that we’ve been using since the return from COVID quarantine, thank you!
This is a great example of how a strong Endowment fund can support improvements within our facility. The Endowment is always happy to accept additional contributions. Please contact stewardship@fusden.org or sign in to your Breeze account to find out how you can be a part of the next Church improvement project.

FUSD Board Secretary Needed
|
(thanks to Coral Coswary for the post)
The FUSD Board Secretary simply takes notes at the Board of Trustee’s monthly meetings and at our annual congregational meeting in June. That’s it! This is a great way to help lead our UU community, even if you only have a small amount of time to give. The Board uses an application called “My Committee” for its documents. If you’ve never used it, that’s OK — we can teach you! Please contact Coral Cosway (ccosway@comcast.net or 720-413-6298) for more information or to express an interest in this volunteer opportunity.

FUSD Eases COVID Restrictions
|
(thanks to Karl Jonietz for the post)
We have coffee – bring cookies and other treats if you like!
As a result of both CDC guidance (Denver County is “low risk”) and the advice of our own resident physician team, the Board has decided to ease the restrictions currently in place for Sunday services. Masks remain optional and we are also reinstituting that most-Unitarian of activities – Sunday morning coffee! Please join us in the community room following the service and as we all work to rebuild our valued community.

TMT/UURJ/UUJMCA online youth worship space
|
(thanks to Jen Simon for the post)
Tune in on zoom Saturday, September 10, 6pm PDT / 7pm MDT.
Registration isn’t mandatory, but it helps us to know how many to expect .. . Help us out if you can.
CAT WORSHIP!!!
You heard me – cat worship. If you’re a UU youth – middle or high school – you’re invited to our first online youth worship of the year, and the theme this month is cats! (This is UU youth worship in a space that is meant to be youth-led. It’ll be fun. It’ll be dynamic. It’ll be engaging. It won’t be boring. We promise.)
What can we learn about life and even spirituality from cats? Planned by youth, this worship will include cat songs, cat check – in, cat – centered meditation, and of course, a communal purr. Worship will be around 30 minutes, and then there will be time for games and conversation.
Yes, you are invited – nay, encouraged! – to bring your cat. And as always, bring a cozy drink to sip, show up in your jammies if you like… Just come as you are and be comfortable. You are invited to log in individually or as a youth group. Come meet or reconnect with other UU youth from around the Pacific Western Region. Post-Covid, let’s rebuild strong UU youth culture in PWR, talk about the topics YOU want to talk about, and have a good time doing it. #croissantsnotdonuts #Robbiesrule #IYKYK #ifyoudontknowcomefindout

Help Needed: Saturday, September 10th, Afghan Asylum Workshop in Northglenn
|
(thanks to Julie Meyers for the post)
Before you head out for the Labor Day weekend, please consider signing up to help at the Afghan Asylum Workshop on Saturday, September 10th. As you know, the Colorado Lawyers Committee has been partnering with Catholic Charities Denver to help resettled Afghans complete their asylum applications.
We need both lawyers and non-lawyers to run the workshop. If you haven’t gotten involved yet, this is a great opportunity to provide real assistance without long-term commitment beyond the day of the workshop. No prior experience or expertise is required for most volunteers (although you must complete the online training if you are working with the Afghan families directly).
We currently have about 1/2 of the volunteers needed to assist 25 Afghan families at the workshop. If you haven’t already signed up, please join us. You can sign up here.
Other upcoming dates are Saturdays: September 24, October 8 and October 22.
