New Member Spotlight – Tim Wilson

Meet Tim Wilson!

I was born in 1948 and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, where my family was very active in our American Baptist church.  After leaving the state to attend college, that part of my life disappeared.  During a difficult time in my life, in 1986 while living in Portland, OR, I found myself drawn to books that were more spiritually focused.  I have lived in Denver twice, 1972-1984 and 1991 to present, and it was upon my return to Denver in 1991-1992 that I got involved with Religious Science and later Divine Science.  My spiritual passions include travel to see the beauty of God’s handiwork (and that of mankind, too), butterflies, waterfalls, and being in Nature.

With the advent of Trump’s second reckless and harm-inducing administration, however, I knew I needed to find a community that would talk openly about the realities of my life, trying to survive and thrive as an openly gay man.  Andrea Mitchell invited me to attend a service at FUSD, and Kate Burns went with me for my first Sunday on Jan. 9, 2025, and I have attended every Sunday since when I am in town and able.  So far, I have participated in one workshop and two classes with Rev. Mike Moran, and I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know my classmates.

I have been an LGBTQ+ activist locally and nationally since 1980, both as a volunteer and on staff, significantly with (but not limited to) PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and the National Association of Black and White Men Together.  I added AIDS/HIV activism in 1983.  Career wise, I worked 17 years in bank operations in three different cities, 12 years in nonprofit management in two different cities, and my last 15.5 years in the paid working world at Fairmount Cemetery and Funeral Home.  I also had two extended and challenging periods of unemployment and underemployment, so I relate personally to the bad things happening in our country in the name of “Patriotism” and cultism.

FAVORITE QUOTE (not exact): “Joy is the surest sign of the presence of God.”

I look forward to meeting and getting to know more members of FUSD.

Tim Wilson loves to travel — seen here on Oct. 3, 2011, at Machu Picchu, Peru.

Tim Wilson is always happiest when near waterfalls. Here, on June 17, 2022, Tim is on the Brazil side of Iguazu Falls, the world’s largest expanse of waterfalls, with Argentina in the far background, on his second visit to the falls.
