New Member Spotlight – Joanne Michalski

Meet Joanne Michalski

"I joined the Unitarian Fellowship in Traverse City, Michigan, around 1993. After having our son Konrad in 1989, we were unable to have more children. We joined an open adoption group (never did adopt), and it was strongly suggested that we join some kind of church. I called the local UUs and spoke to Rev Emily Lou Belcher (still a good friend). I told her that we were looking for a liberal, Christian church. Emily Lou said, “We are liberal but not really Christian.” We were sold after one service and became active members. After that, we belonged to the 1st UU society in Madison, WI, where our son attended RE and team-taught Our Neighboring Faiths. Next came Chicago, where we were active members at 1st U. We have owned a place in Summit County for over 25 years and attended the small (sadly closed) UU group there. Rev. Mike Moran preached there, so when we moved to Denver full-time last October, joining this group was automatic. We love the sermons, the music, and the people, and think this place is well organized. We are also impressed with how finances are handled. My husband, Mike Weeda, will probably “sign the book” soon."
