Immigration
Project

Responding to injustice with compassion and action by standing with immigrants and advocating for human dignity.

BACKGROUND

First Unitarian Society of Denver has worked on immigrant justice issues for many years. Our work has included providing sanctuary to immigrant advocate Jeanette Vizguerra, volunteering with immigrant assistance and advocacy organizations, and organizing and attending vigils at the GEO Detention Center in Aurora.

CURRENT WORK

The Immigration Project was formally reconstituted in July 2025 in response to a dramatic increase in anti-immigrant activity in Colorado and nationwide. The goal was to create a space for congregants to share information about what is happening to immigrants, learn how they can help, and organize to take action.

FUSD members and allies are involved in a wide range of advocacy efforts, including calling elected officials, participating in rallies and demonstrations, working to shut down or prevent the opening of ICE detention centers, supporting detainees, volunteering with Immigrant Partnership Teams (IPTs), and more.

CURRENT FOCUS

Keeping us informed about where help is needed and how to get educated and trained to support those efforts.

Participating in and supporting the Interfaith Immigration Network (IIN), the largest alliance of faith organizations in the metro area, to maximize the voice and power of the faith community.

Supporting each other so that we have the strength to carry on this work.
