Let’s Talk About Men
Rev. Mike Morran
|
Join us on July 12th at 10:30 am. The statistics are damning, the scholarship is shifting, the jokes are funny and often sad. What the bleep is up with men?
|
We warmly invite you to join us in person, or if you prefer, you can also participate online. We look forward to seeing you there!
Our service streams at 10:30 am to Youtube and Zoom (meeting ID is 466-677-668 and the password is 454623).
Join us for coffee in the Community Room after the service.

TGTHR has been ending youth homelessness in Colorado since 1966. Our Nest56 community, a 56-unit supportive housing complex in Denver, is home to young people ages 18–24 who have experienced homelessness or the foster care system. Unlike traditional shelter models, Nest56 was intentionally designed with one- and two-bedroom units to support parenting youth and their children. Currently, we have 11 young mothers and fathers who needed a safe place to sleep and space to raise their children. Residents at Nest56 have access to the same wraparound services we provide at our Drop-In Resource Center and Boulder housing facility, including: case management, individual counseling, mental and physical healthcare, education and employment support, life-skills development, and housing navigation when they are ready to transition to living independently.
TGTHR works in close partnership with Urban Peak, Denver’s largest provider of emergency shelter and crisis services for youth. Where Urban Peak excels at meeting young people in the acute moments of crisis, TGTHR’s strength is the long game: stable housing and relationship-centered support that prevents young people from returning to the streets. 50% of chronically homeless adults experienced their first episode of homelessness before the age of 25. We are here to intervene and stop that cycle for hundreds of young people each year. Your support this July goes directly to that work.

DON’T PANIC! It was time to clean up the name tag wall, as it was bursting at the seams. It looks very different and it might take you a minute to find your name tag on Sunday morning.
Blue name tags, based on the current list of members, are on the wall in alphabetical order. White name tags, visitors and friends, were removed so that we can ascertain who is still attending regularly. All white name tags will be alphabetized on tables near the name tag wall. After the service, you can add your white name tag to the alphabetized name tag wall.
If you cannot find your name tag, we apologize in advance! Please email Leslie at msleslie@fusden.org and she will help you find it or will create a new name tag for you. Additionally, if you would like to update your name tag, you can reach out to Leslie for assistance.

OWL Offered to 2nd and 3rd Graders September to November
|
Our Whole Lives (OWL) Program to be offered in the fall of 2026 for 2nd and 3rd graders. This program offers comprehensive, age-appropriate, and values-based sexuality education in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
OWL is guided by the following two principles: parents and caregivers have primary responsibility for their children’s sexuality education and sexuality education happens through open and honest communication among adults and their children.
Please complete this form to reserve your child’s spot. Enrollment is limited to ensure a high-quality experience, with a minimum of 8 students and a maximum of 12 students per class. Early registration is encouraged, as classes will only be held if minimum enrollment is met.

There has been another wave of phishing emails falsely claiming to be from Rev. Mike. Please know that he (and other staff) will never email or text church members asking for gift cards, Amazon credits, money, or emergency financial assistance.
If you receive a message that seems unusual or doesn’t feel quite right, please do not respond. Simply delete it. Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

Faithful Resistance Podcast
|
(Thanks to Richard Woodruff for the post)
The Social Justice Council enthusiastically invites all members of the First Unitarian social justice family (you) to tune into the latest installment of the Faithful Resistance video podcast. Faithful Resistance is produced by our neighbors in the Common Flame (was Jefferson Unitarian)Church. This latest episode is particularly noteworthy as it provides more information on a new state-wide organization – UU Colorado Action Network (UUCAN). It also highlights our own Tyler Watlington in her role on the UUCAN steering committee.

Seeking a Host/Host Team for Our Silver & Gold Luncheon.
We’re looking for that special someone who loves bringing people together and showing off their natural hosting flair. This fall, we’ll once again celebrate our cherished elders with our annual Silver & Gold Luncheon — a tradition filled with good food, warm conversation, and the joy of connection.
This event is a gift to some of the wisest and most wonderful members of our community, and we need a host or hostess to help make it shine. You don’t have to do it alone — if you have a friend who’d enjoy partnering with you, teams are absolutely welcome.
If creating a meaningful, joy-filled afternoon for our elders speaks to your heart, please reach out to bojea@icloud.com and let’s talk. Thank you for considering this beautiful opportunity to give back.

Attention First Unitarian Drivers: Parking Pass Update
|
Currently we are collecting all LAZ parking passes—including both rearview mirror hang tags and paper passes. Please bring your old parking pass to church this Sunday to exchange it for a new one. A parking table will be available in the Community Room to collect old passes and answer any questions you may have.
Due to a change in management of the Alta parking lot located across Lafayette Street, new parking passes for this lot will now be labeled “FUSD Church Parking.”
Please note that the approved parking days and hours remain unchanged:
Weekdays: Parking is permitted after 6:00 PM
Saturdays & Sundays: Parking is permitted all day

Another Opportunity to Donate Household Items
|
(Thanks to Julie Meyers for the post)
A Venezuelan family whom I’ve been friendly with since they arrived 2-1/2 years ago recently had to move from their 2 BR apt as they had 13 people living there! They were able to find a small house to rent in Aurora. They need many household items. Specifically, they need a full size bed, bedding, table, chairs, drawers for clothing, and kitchen supplies. If you have these items, or others, let me know. Pictures of furniture with measurements is very helpful. Also helpful is the means to transport the items, but not necessary. Thanks for looking in your basements/closets!

Bad Faith: documentary Film – July 14 at 6:30pm
|
(Thanks to Jane Ashley for the post)
This film tells the story of how evangelical Christians co-opted the right wing of the Republican party. “A great and timely and powerful film, filled with the dread this moment engenders; the cynical misuse of religion to advance aims diametrically the opposite of Christianity’s mission.” — Ken Burns
You can view the trailer above.
Date: Tuesday, July 14
Time: 6:30 pm
