Faithful vs. Feckless Liberalism

Rev. Mike Morran

Join us on May 17th at 9:15 and 11 am. This Sunday we’ll examine what liberalism gets so very right, and what it gets so very, very wrong when it comes to racism, class, and politics.

We warmly invite you to join us in person, or if you prefer, you can also participate online. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our service streams at 9:15 am to Youtube and Zoom (meeting ID is 466-677-668 and the password is 454623).

Join us for coffee in the Community Room after each service.

Giving in Action: Center for Community Wealth

(Thanks to Beth Fischer for the post)

Our Giving in Action organization for this week is the Center for Community Wealth. The Center works to close the racial wealth gap by supporting communities historically excluded from opportunity as they build lasting economic power and a deeper sense of agency over their futures. Through worker ownership, support for BIPOC and immigrant-owned small businesses, and community-led ownership of real estate, CCW expands economic opportunity in ways that allow people not only to participate in the economy, but to help shape it. Beyond income, this work builds the capacity of families and neighborhoods to influence the decisions that affect their lives, create lasting stability, and pass opportunity on to future generations.

New Member Sunday

Did you know you can become a member at any time? You can reach out to Reverend Mike to set a time to meet with him and sign the book. Or you can join during our next New Member Sunday THIS SUNDAY where you will be recognized with others who are becoming members during the service. If you would like to become a member this Sunday, May 17th or privately with Rev. Mike, please email Leslie Harvey at msleslie@fusden.org

Attention First Unitarian Drivers: Parking Pass Update

Effective Sunday, May 17, 2026, we are collecting all LAZ parking passes—including both rearview mirror hang tags and paper passes. Please bring your old parking pass to church this Sunday to exchange it for a new one. A parking table will be available in the Community Room to collect old passes and answer any questions you may have.

Due to a change in management of the Alta parking lot located across Lafayette Street, new parking passes for this lot will now be labeled “FUSD Church Parking.”

Please note that the approved parking days and hours remain unchanged:

Weekdays: Parking is permitted after 6:00 PM

Saturdays & Sundays: Parking is permitted all day

Children’s Religious Exploration Programming

Religious Exploration News

(Thanks to Leslie Harvey, for the post)

RE classes will be held during the first service, which will begin at 9:15. There will be no RE classes during the second service, which will begin at 11 am each week.

Families, please help us keep children on the carpet (out of the exit aisle) when they have toys out in the Peaceful Play Space. This is an important emergency exit that must stay clear at all times.

In the event of an emergency evacuation when children are in class, we will safely exit the building and reunite with families at the designated location: the parking lot on Lafayette, across the street and to the North. Please see Ms. Leslie with any questions you may have.

Mark your calendars! On May 17, First Unitarian will hold a Bridging Ceremony—a meaningful ritual that honors the important life transitions of our young people.

Whether a child is moving from preschool to kindergarten, kindergarten to first grade, middle school to high school, or graduating from high school into college or adulthood, this ceremony provides a special opportunity to mark the moment with reflection, celebration, and community support.

If there’s a young person in your life experiencing one of these transitions, we warmly invite them to take part in this tradition that recognizes both the excitement and challenges of growing up. Please contact Leslie @ msleslie@fusden.org to let you know!

Please note: May 17 will be an Intergenerational Service, with no RE classes offered. It is New Member Sunday and we will hold our Bridging Ceremony.

Mark your calendars! May 31 will be our RE Volunteer Appreciation and our last day of RE classes before we break for the summer.

The BOT will hold Q&A sessions in preparation for the special meeting.

Waitlist for Free House Concerts This Summer

Would you like to attend a house concert this summer—hear great music, enjoy delicious food, and meet people of different generations—but the cost makes it difficult? Here’s an opportunity for you.

Occasionally, ticket holders have to cancel at the last minute and donate their seats. Rather than let those spots go empty, which is disappointing to musicians and chefs alike, we’re creating a waitlist for people who would love to attend.

Fill out this short contact form, and when a seat opens up, a group message will be sent out. The first to respond gets the seat. More details are on the form.

It’s a win-win for everyone involved—and a wonderful way to enjoy an evening of music, food, and community.

Know Your Rights Training with Denver Justice Project

We hope that everyone will join us for this training. As a congregation we must all be prepared no matter where we are (in the streets, our neighborhood, or at church) to understand our constitutional rights and know the actions to take to protect them.

The Denver Justice Project will provide a Know Your Rights Training workshop that is intended to arm the participants with the knowledge about how to navigate interactions with law-enforcement to their best ability in hopes of the safest possible outcome. This training is also geared to help community members understand their Constitutional Rights and assess interactions with police should their Rights be violated. This event is open to the community. Feel free to share with friends and family.
