Religious Exploration

Love working with kids? The Religious Exploration (RE) programs need your help!  Our children are kind, curious, and full of energy. We're seeking committed, dedicated, & reliable teachers to provide the best Religious Exploration possible for our children and growing families.

Annual Auction

Our Annual Auction raises funds for the church and brings people together. Have a talent, skill, service, or dinner to offer? Donate an item in one of these categories: juried fine arts and crafts, quality goods, homemade foods, themed baskets, services, getaways, dinners, events, or fellowship activities.

Homeless ministries

Through our Family Promise program, our FUSD community provides church-based shelter, food, transportation, and hospitality for families experiencing homelessness as they work toward self-sufficiency. We host families for a week or two, two or three times a year. Volunteer opportunities include: Cooking meals, giving rides, turning classrooms into cozy bedrooms, and much more. 

SUNDAY STEWARDS

Our Sunday services rely on volunteers. Each service needs two greeters at the Welcome Table and three ushers to set up the sanctuary, hand out Orders of Service, and collect the offering. Our Audio Visual team runs the sound board and records services, and training is provided. These are great first steps for newcomers.

Joining a COMMITTEE

Want to see the great work our committees do? Join a meeting or church event. Our committees range from Property Management, which cares for our historic building, to the Board of Trustees, which guides long-term decisions. You're welcome here.

The caring committee

The Caring Committee connects congregants who need help with those who want to help. Every FUSD member is part of the Caring Committee, both giving and receiving. Our dispatchers coordinate meals, visits, medical advocates, rides to appointments, and cards for joys and concerns.

connections ministry

Help First Unitarian members, friends and visitors build the connections that make our community a loving, supportive, and spiritual place to belong. The Connections Ministry Committee welcomes newcomers and hosts events to celebrate new members. The committee usually meets the second Sunday of the month before the first service.

Social Justice initiatives

Have a heart for social justice? Moved by issues like homelessness, LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, or the environment? Our volunteers organize rallies, education sessions, community partnerships, and the difficult conversations that make us more just.

Music Program

Come sing with us! The Chalice Singers, our adult choir, rehearse Thursday evenings from late August through early June, and no audition is required. You can also join the Music Committee to help plan community music events and the Capitol Hill Concerts series. You don't need to be a musician to serve.
