While Ministerial Care and the Caring Committee lend a hand for short term counseling and needs, Community Support Services are necessary links to comprehensive, expert assistance with severe and/or persistent problems.
Colorado now has a service called 2-1-1 to help those in need and those who wish to assist someone in need to find the right assistance in their area. Especially in cases where emergency mental health care, housing, or other assistance is needed, calling 2-1-1 will be your fastest and safest choice of consultation on assistance options. 9-1-1 still remains your best choice for life threatening emergencies. 2-1-1 is particularly helpful to try to get appropriate care rather than the police or ambulance response that 9-1-1 triggers. 2-1-1 will put you through to 9-1-1 if they assess the situation and feel that immediate police, fire, or

2-1-1 is also a comprehensive referral service and you need not have a crisis situation to use it for help in locating community support services.
Asking for help is an important first step towards reaching a solution. We provide the following partial listing of community support systems for those who prefer to contact an individual agency. This list cannot be complete, but it may provide a first step towards finding help, both for those in need and those who are assisting them. The listing of these resources and organizations does not, in any way, imply endorsement by First Unitarian Society of Denver or the Caring Committee. Several of these agencies have received contributions from FUSD's Giving in Action Program.
